Not so surprisingly, Linux x86_64 is pure hell. Namely after trying to configure it to have all multimedia capabilities. At this point of time hell comes loose, and everything starts to break down due to dependency hell. And end result is just twisted sick compromise of possibilities.
Thus if one is wanting to be able to play videos, music, etc. in Linux, it’s better to stay far away from x86_64. 64bits is just hell, without any real benefit; unless the fact that applications are slightly more fater slower is counted as benefit :D, and fun of requiring still anyway loading into memory both 32bit and 64bit libraries, since anyway some application is still 32bit only.
