Regardless of its’ technical issues, I’ve been reasonably satisfied with device. Considering the fact that 3G via bluetooth has worked reasonably and price was only 1/4 high end devices, device is OK.

After all biggest problem with device isn’t actually related into this particular device at all, but is generic to all of these fancy new devices, regardless of manufacturer. Namely, basic simple calendar and notetaking functionalities. Still, after all these years of so called ”development”, Palm TX is beating these fancy devices on that department.

One big issue is form factor, and ease of use. With Palm, it was sure that with single button press device awake, and typing new entry into calendar was really fast (i.e. no fussing with special ”add entry” or whatever, but just start writing, and entry appears). Also I’ve to admit that in the end, usage of pen is also actually very practical, since at least my fingers are so fat that they are covering half the screen (not even considering all the grease in them…), compared to pen, which doesn’t cove anything.

And thus on this department I’m disappointed. I thought that Palm Desktop was somehow ”bad”, but after all, it was rather good, when comparing against new fancier devices.

After that stated, I’m keenly waiting to see how new Samsung notepad shall work, when I’m able to test one. The fact that device is apparently only slightly bigger than Palm TX, and has pen for notetaking, it sounds indeed very interesting.

Anyway, I’m still carrying always Palm with me, since that’s device what I know I can trust if really needing notepad (i.e. standby battery lifetime is really good, counted in weeks, not days…).

Two things, however, cause that I won’t be either cancelling my experiment of having ”computer” all the time with me. (1) Web browser anywhere, with reasonably sized screen, (2) E-books (fiction and reference manuals).
